EARLVILLE - 11

PITCHERS:
EARLVILLE - BECKER 2 4K, GOODBRED 2 1K, ? 1 (SORRY)
PAW PAW - WILEY 3 3K, KREITER 2 3K
Highlights
A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT FOR BASEBALL WITH A NICE GAME PLAYED
BY BOTH TEAMS. EACH TEAM HAD IT'S SHARE OF EARLY
SEASON ERRORS BUT BOTH HIT THE BALL HARD. PAW PAW
SCORING 16 ON 17 HITS, EARLVILLE SCORING 11 ON 15
HITS.

EARLVILLE SCORED EARLY AND OFTEN DUE TO SOME CLUTCH
HITTING AND A FEW MISPLAYED BALLS ON THE PART OF PAW
PAW, TAKING A 10 - 5 LEAD INTO THE 4TH. PAW PAW ENDED
THE THIRD WITH SOME NIFTY RUNNING ALLOWING EARLVILLE
TO TURN A 2-3-2 DOUBLE PLAY.

BUT AFTER HOLDING EARLVILLE TO 1 RUN IN THE TOP OF THE
FORTH PAW PAW'S BATS CAME ALIVE HELPED BY A COUPLE OF
ERRORS BY EARLVILLE AND AT THE END OF THE 4TH PAW PAW
HAD THE LEAD 13 - 11. TWO RUNS WERE SAVED BY ONE OF
THE NICEST SHORTSTOP PLAYS I'VE SEEN, I WISH I KNEW
THE KIDS NAME.

EARLVILLE THREATENED IN THE TOP OF THE FIFTH. THE
BASES WERE LOADED WITH 2 OUTS AND GOODBRED AT THE
PLATE. GOODBRED GREASED A SINGLE DOWN THE FIRST BASE
LINE SCORING 2 RUNS BEFORE GOODBRED WAS THROWN OUT AT
SECOND. BUT HOLD ON, THE UMPIRE RULED THE SINGLE A
FOUL BALL, BACK TO BASES LOADED. THIS TIME GOODBRED
HIT TO 2ND AND WAS THROWN OUT AT FIRST. THE SINGLE
WAS A QUESTIONABLE CALL HANDLED WELL BY EARLVILLES
COACHES AND PLAYERS.

PAW PAW SCORED 3 MORE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 5TH AND THE
GAME WAS CALLED BY THE UMPIRE DUE TO ENSUING DARKNESS.
THANKS TO ALL INVOLVED FOR A GREAT GAME.

Highlights : What a beautiful evening for a ball game; there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the temperature was cool.  Jamie has a nice group of players and coaches...hard working, polite and friendly.  He coached with class even when the chips were down.  I'll have to remember his poise when our team is in trouble.  Plano #4 prevailed in the end thanks to solid defense, great pitching, strong batting and some good, old fashioned luck.  Thanks to the entire Indian Creek group for a quality game

Highlights

Coach Appel has a very talented and disciplined team standing behind him and his coaching staff. They should be very proud of their boys and their sportsmanship. IC’s young team is looking forward to a couple more practices and then back at it next week. We had a slow start to the game due to the league’s assigned ump being a no show, but luckily we found two H.S. ball players that did a very impressive job calling the game.

Highlights :
A really good Pony game played between two good teams. A lot of good
pitching leads to not a lot of hitting as each team was only able to
get 4 hits each. A really well played game. Fortunately, Hinckley
scratched across a run in the 2nd, followed by 5 more in the 3rd as we
were able to get the big hit when we needed it as Christian hit a
grand slam. Plano #2 put 2 runs across in the 4th and one more in the
5th, but Hinckley was able to hold on for the win. Others with a hit
for Hinckley were Bernie (1b), Jared (1b), and Zach (3b). Hinckley
improves to 2-0 on the season.

Earlville finally tallied their first win of the year. Earlville jumped out to an early lead by scoring 7 runs in the first inning. Lisbon followed with a 6 run inning of their own in the 3 rd inning, but Earlville was able to hold them off the rest of the way. Good luck to Lisbon the rest of the year and thank you Coach Williamson for a nice night of baseball.

8:00pm #16 Paw Paw at #10 Plano #4

PAW PAW - 12
PLANO 4 - 16

PITCHERS:
PAW PAW - KREITER 2, WILEY 3
PLANO - RO 4, CODY 2

First of all let me say that Plano got hosed on at least 4 calls possibly 5 and handled it with class and a smile.  Since Paw Paw is a bunch of good guys we made it up to Plano with 9 errors.  Both teams played hard with sportsmanship on both sides.

Pitching on both sides had it's moments, Plano pitching tallied 8 Ks with 8 base on balls while Paw Paw put up 9 Ks with 6 base on balls. There were no players HBP.

What both teams were not afraid to do was hit the ball and it came down to who made the plays on the field. On this game we tip our hats to Plano 4 and look forward to our next meeting. The following stats count errors as a hit and do not subtract for fielders choice.

Plano 4 - Davis 2-1 2w, Abe 3-3 1w, Ro 3-3, Cody 2-2 1w, Aaron 2-3, Tyler 2-3, Paul 1-2 1w, Merad 0-3, Carlos 1-2 1w, Kevin 1-2 1w, Don 1-3, Joe 1-3

Paw Paw - Claison 1-3 1w, Mccannon 3-4, Brunswich 2-3, Swanson 1-3, Wiley 0-1 2w, Kreiter 1-2 1w, Lilja 3-3, Glock 2-3, Safranek 0-2 1w, Klineprinze 0-1 2w, Jenkins 0-2 1w, Prentice 3-3

Pitchers for Plano #4 #00 Nunez 4 innings, #23 Dryden 2 innings

Pitchers for Paw Paw : #3 Kreiter 2 innings, #4 Wiley 4 innings

Highlights : Once again, another beautiful spring evening for a ball game.  Paw Paw played a wonderful game.  Both teams did well with their bats and both teams could have played better defense.  As always, Paw Paw was led by polite, yet motivated, coaches (thanks Vern!) and parents.  The boys played with determination and true sportsmanship.  The game could have gone either way; Plano was fortunate to come out on top.

 Highlights :

One of the coldest nights I’ve ever played a baseball game in. Earlville got it’s 2 nd win of the season with some good pitching and timely hitting. Chase Johnson pitched a very nice ballgame behind some good defense throughout the contest. Tyler Becker started the scoring in the first with a 2 out double and Earlville just chipped a little after that. Coach Jamie Deutsch has a nice ball club and should be proud of his team. I always enjoy these contests because egos are set to the side and its all about the kids getting to just play the game of baseball. Ostrom for Indian Creek played a nice ballgame going 3-3, with 3 singles. I’d like to say “Thanks for a wonderful night”, but I’d be lying. I froze my butt off. I hope to god when we play June 12 it’s warmer.

It was a cold and windy night, but the boys didn’t seem to mind. The sky was clear and Earlville came to play. Hats off to their pitcher who shut our boys down the entire game. Earlville jumped to an early lead due to some costly 1 st inning walks and it seemed that is all they would need to finish off the game victorious over Indian Creek. As a coach, I look forward to playing Earlville. Their coaches are top notch and their players are solid and have good team attitudes. Despite our loss, it was a good night at the ball park. Congrats to Earlville for being the better team on this night.

*There wasn't a patched umpire. He went to Harding Grade School instead and refused to come down to Wedron to umpire the game and said find someone else.

That is why we publish both the coach and the umpires phone numbers, all it would of took was some communication before 10 minutes before game time. All coaches should call to confirm umpires to make sure they know where they are going. What good is it to call when the umpire goes to the wrong place without calling first, and coach calling after he doesn't show up. It should all be done the day before, call each other

Coach Appel has a very strong and well rounded team, but an All Star pitching performance and some timely hits won IC the game. Thank you to the Plano team for a very close game and another night at the ball park. Hats off the the umpire. He was very good, and vocal, and gave the boys a good experience.

Pitchers for  Lisbon :  #34 Steve 2 innings, #19 Andrew 3 innings

Highlights :  We had an outstanding evening for baseball in Lisbon .  I always try to be polite during our games, but tonight Patty, her coaches and players redefined polite.  We should all strive to set such good examples for our youth.  The umpire tonight, Mike Anderson, was also one of the best I've seen.  His calls were consistent and he worked with the boys by explaining his calls and teaching them.  All and all, it was a wonderful, positive American experience for everyone.  Lisbon lost tonight by the numbers, but they get a thanks and a "win" from me for their sportsmanship

Highlights Except for the bugs, we had a wonderful evening under the lights for baseball.  We all meet many nice teams during the season, yet some teams seem to stand out.  Well, Harding is one of those stand out teams.  Kevin, his coaches, the players and their parents are what American, small-town baseball is all about.  What a positive example the Harding adults set for their players and it shows!  Heck, tonight one of the players came over, looked me in the eyes, stuck out his hand and introduced himself.  Not once did a coach, a player or a parent get crabby.  Of course, it is one thing to stay upbeat when you're in the lead, but as we all know, it is altogether different when your team is struggling.  I honestly can't say that I could have handled the situation with the class they showed.  In my brief, two years experience, the Harding folks have set the standard for sportsmanship.  Win or lose, I always look forward to seeing your group.  Thanks Kevin (and Tyler and Jack and everyone else involved with the Harding team, too!)

INDIAN CREEK - 5
PAW PAW - 17

PITCHERS:
INDIAN CREEK - PARSON 2, TODD 4
PAW PAW - WILEY 5, KRIETER 1

PAW PAW CAME TO PLAY FOR THE FIRST TIME ALL YEAR. ALTHOUGH ONLY 8 OF THEIR NOW 9 PLAYERS SHOWED FOR THE EVENT. IC HIT THE BALL HARD BUT USUALLY RIGHT AT A PAW PAW PLAYER WHO IN TURN MADE THE PLAYS THAT WERE GIVEN THEM. PAW PAW MADE ONLY 3 ERRORS THE ENTIRE GAME, THAT'S USUALLY THE 1ST INNING, PLAYING LIKE THE TEAM THE PAW PAW COACHES HAVE THOUGHT WAS THERE ALL YEAR.

IC'S COACHING STAFF HANDLED THE WHOOPIN WELL, WE KNOW WELL HOW IT IS WHEN YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THE HORSES AND YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THEM RUN. THEY HAVE A HARD HITTING, DEFENSIVE TEAM THAT PUT IT TO US 15 - 2 IN OUR LAST MEETING. WE THANK THEM FOR A GOOD BALL GAME WITH ONE OF THE TIGHTEST STRIKE ZONES IN HISTORY.

PAW PAW'S BATS CAME ALIVE AS HARD PITCHING CAN MAKE FOR HARD HITTING. CLASON AND PRENTICE TURNED A COMBINED AVERAGE OF 0 - 9 THE GAME BEFORE TO 11 - 12 WITH 8 RBI AND 8 RUNS SCORED, CONGRATS TO BOTH FOR KEEPING THEIR CHINS UP AND THEIR HEADS IN THE GAME. GOOD LUCK TO IC IN THE PLAYOFFS, I'M SURE THEY WILL DO WELL
.
